Car Battery Maintenance
for corrosion on terminals.
The battery in your car, like most other parts, is vastly improved over just a few years ago. And today’s batteries are even labeled “no maintenance.” A dead car battery will definitely put a “stop” in your plan for the day, so it’s worthwhile paying attention to your battery.
Here are some warning signs
that you need to pay attention to
The first car battery replacement warning sign is corrosion. If you inspect your batteries “terminals” (the posts or screws where the wires attach to the battery) you might find them covered in a white powder. That’s a sign of corrosion and a warning that you may have an “oh-oh” in your future.
Another sign to look for is your car not jumping to life when you turn the key. If your starter sounds funny when you turn the key, dragging a little bit, it could indicate a car battery replacement may be needed soon.
If you car has an electrical gauge, pay attention to where the needle normally sits. If it suddenly is reading high or low, that could be an indication that the battery isn’t holding the charge it needs and is running the alternator harder than it should.
