How you get a check engine light ON warning?
Your vehicle has several computers that read a dozen or more “vehicle health” sensors continuously. If a sensor gets a bad reading, a check engine light ON warns you that something has happened, but not what.
One sensor might track mileage between oil changes, if the oil change sensor isn’t reset after an oil change and you surpass the mileage the manufacturer has set for the system, the check engine light ON warning notifies you to see what the problem could be.
Another sensor might check the health of the brake system. If you step on the brake and the antilock break system registers a problem, you get the same check engine light ON warning.
Finding out what the problem is
Discovering what turned the check engine light on is usually quite simple if you have the right tools. Bring your vehicle to Tires Tires Tires and we’ll check the computer readout to find out what triggered the warning.
You would be surprised how many times the check engine light ON is triggered by something that doesn’t require anything more than a check engine light resetting. We’ll record the readings, reset the light and wait to see if it comes on again. Often the things get triggered by one time events and aren’t a problem at all.
If it’s something simple that needs attention, we’ll set up an appointment. If it’s something serious, we’ll get you in right away to prevent the problem from becoming bigger.
We’re here to help you get more miles from your present vehicle and save you money. A check engine light ON is not a reason to panic, it’s just something that needs to checked to make sure things don’t get out of hand.
