Muffler Repair – Exhaust System Repair
Many times, your neighbors will notice you need auto muffler repair before you do. The sound proofing of your vehicle (and the audio system) can keep you from noticing the extra rumble as it begins.
More than a muffler
Your car’s exhaust system plays a role in how efficiently your vehicle’s engine runs and how much pollution it creates.
The muffler is one of several components that also include the catalytic converter, fifteen feet or more of exhaust pipe, and a “header” that connects to the engine and combines the output of each of the cylinders into one. The whole system is balanced to provide the right amount of free air flow with just enough back pressure to help silence the rumbling the motor creates.
As the exhaust flows through the catalytic converter, the hot gas cools and pollution is removed, the exhaust flows into the muffler where an ingenious system of baffles neutralizes the sound, making it possible to drive through quiet neighborhoods while people are sleeping or to talk naturally in the vehicles interior.
Dangerous wear
The super heated exhaust is hard on the metal pipes, catalytic converter, and muffler and the gasses corrode them from the inside out while road salt works its damage from the outside in.
A leaky exhaust system can allow dangerous pollutants like carbon monoxide into your car’s interior where it poisons the air you breathe. If you hear any extra exhaust noise, it’s time to get it in and have it looked at by our exhaust specialists.
